Not long ago, I had the chance to try two dimsum spots that are currently popular among local foodies: Winglock and Dimsum Yay. Both are known for serving dimsum as their main specialty, offering cozy spaces and friendly service. Out of curiosity, I decided to visit both places within a short time span and compare my dining experience from taste, price, and portion size, to overall atmosphere. If you're trying to decide between the two, this honest review might help!
Let’s start with what most people consider first: price. At Dimsum Yay, prices start at Rp18,000 per portion, while at Winglock, they start at Rp20,000. While the difference may seem small, it adds up when ordering multiple dishes or dining in a group. Dimsum Yay is definitely the more wallet-friendly option if you're just craving a quick and affordable snack.
When it comes to portion size, the difference is instantly noticeable. The dimsum at Winglock is noticeably larger, denser, and more filling. Just two or three items are enough to satisfy. In contrast, Dimsum Yay serves smaller portions I needed to order several items to feel full. So if you’re eating to satisfy your hunger and not just sampling, portion size is something to keep in mind.
As for the taste, Winglock stands out. The seasoning is richer, the fillings are juicier, and the dimsum wrappers are just right not too thick and not soggy. Their hakau is fresh and flavorful, the chicken feet are tender, and the spring rolls have that perfect crispy outside and soft inside. Dimsum Yay is tasty too, no doubt, but the flavors are more subtle and not quite as bold. Personally, Winglock offered a more satisfying bite.
On the menu variety, both spots offer a similar range of classic dimsum dishes. You’ll find chicken siomay, prawn hakau, chicken feet, fried spring rolls, steamed and fried mantou, salted egg lava buns, and crispy wontons at both. No real difference in what's offered. In terms of presentation, both are equally neat and visually appealing definitely Instagram-worthy! So this category ends in a tie, with differences coming down to size and flavor.
In terms of ambiance, both places are comfortable. The spaces are clean, the lighting is warm, and the overall atmosphere is peaceful. Perfect for a casual lunch, chatting with friends, or even catching up on some work while snacking. Service-wise, both teams were polite, quick, and attentive no complaints at all. Whether you visit Winglock or Dimsum Yay, the customer experience is pleasant.
Now let’s talk value and satisfaction. Winglock is the clear winner if you're looking to get full quickly, thanks to its larger portions and richer flavors. That said, Dimsum Yay shines in terms of price. With a budget-friendly menu, you can sample more dishes and explore a wide range of flavors. Even better, Dimsum Yay offers an All You Can Eat (AYCE) deal for just Rp88,000, where you can eat as much as you like in 1 hour. It's perfect for foodies who want to try everything or for sharing with friends without breaking the bank.
After trying both places myself, I’d rate Winglock 10/10 flavor, portion size, comfort, and service were all excellent. For Dimsum Yay, I give it a solid 8/10. It’s tasty, budget-friendly, and offers a relaxing dining space. And with the AYCE deal in the mix, Dimsum Yay becomes even more attractive for anyone who wants to eat big without spending big.
If you're after rich flavors, big portions, and lasting satisfaction, Winglock is your best bet. But if you're in the mood for something lighter, more affordable, and want to sample many dimsum options, Dimsum Yay’s Rp88,000 AYCE deal makes it a super appealing alternative. Both places offer something worth trying it all depends on your mood, budget, and appetite. Happy dimsum hunting!
