Hello again, dear reader!

The #KaburAjaDulu phenomenon has become a hot topic of conversation on Indonesian social media. This hashtag is not just a trend, but a reflection of the unrest and hopes of the younger generation who feel hampered in achieving a better future in their homeland. Young Indonesians are now increasingly vocal about their desire to seek opportunities abroad, whether for a career, education, or a better quality of life.

The hashtag has been going viral since mid-ferbbuari 2025 on various platforms such as X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram. There, netizens shared their stories and plans to leave Indonesia, driven by various factors such as uncompetitive salaries, difficulty in finding a job that suits their skills, and economic and political uncertainty in the country.

According to Irwan Prasetiyo, a labor analyst, this work migration trend is triggered by young people's desire for a more prosperous life. He explains that working abroad not only offers higher salaries, but also provides experience and global skills that can have a positive impact when they return to Indonesia.

Yanuar Nugroho, Visiting Senior Fellow at the Yusof Ishak Institute (ISEAS) Singapore, also shared a similar sentiment. He considers that the emergence of the #KaburAjaDulu hashtag is a form of social response from the younger generation to the increasingly difficult and uncertain reality of life. According to him, the desire to leave does not mean that they do not love their homeland, but rather a reflection of frustration with socio-economic conditions that have not improved.

This phenomenon has led to two poles of opinion among the community. On the one hand, many support the young generation's decision to migrate as the right of every individual to pursue a better life. On the other hand, some see this move as a sign of weakening nationalism. However, many young voices emphasized that love for one's country does not have to be shown by enduring self-defeating situations.

#KaburAjaDulu is not just viral, but a reflection of the realities faced by Indonesia's young generation. Their voices deserve to be heard, not just debated. It is time for policymakers to open their eyes and ears to these aspirations, so that the future of Indonesia does not continue to lose its best generation because they choose to leave.
